Whole Wheat Naan (Flatbread)

Everyone loves a good crispy Naan (flatbread) but it's usually made with all purpose flour and cooked in a Tandoor (clay oven). We tried making a slightly healthier version with whole wheat flour at home (cookingshooking YT recipe) with glass top stove and they came out pretty good! More varieties to come soon :)

Vegetarian

Serving Size : 7-8

Prep ⏰: 30 mins (proofing time) | Cook ⏰ : 20 mins ( for whole dough)

Ingredients

1 ½ cup whole wheat flour / atta

½ cup all purpose flour / maida (*skip if you want, but makes the naan crispy)

¼ tsp baking powder

⅛ tsp baking soda

yogurt / dahi - to make a dough

1 tbsp sugar

2 tbsp oil

dry Atta - to roll naan

salt as per taste

water - to spread before cooking

butter - to apply before serving

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl take wheat flour, all purpose flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, sugar, oil and mix well.

  • Now add curd 2-3 tbsp at time and start kneading the dough.

  • Knead the dough for about 4-5 minutes into soft dough like for chapathi/ dinner rolls but a little sticky.

  • Making small rolls and cover with a little flour and rest the dough balls for 30 mins covered with damp cloth.

  • Start rolling the dough and use flour if its difficult to work with. Wet one side and place on hot tava/griddle.

  • Turn over and cook the other side on a wired rack or same tava till brown spots.

  • Spread butter and serve piping hot! Enjoy!
