Bean Patoli (Beans Curry)

A quick and easy curry, Beans Patoli or Dal Usli is one of our favorites! The base is standard so just substitute beans with any number of *veggies and you get a variety of delish recipes. This lovely South Indian dish is perfect for busy day side!

Prep ⏰: 5 mins | Cook ⏰ : 20 mins


Ingredients

3 cups beans, chopped

3 red chillis

3 tbsp channa dal

1.5 tsp mustard seeds

1/2 tsp cumin seeds

1 tsp urid dal

1 tsp turmeric powder

2 tbsp curry leaves

2 tbsp oil

salt to taste


*Substitute with Cluster beans (Guar), Potatoes, long beans, banana flowers, cabbage etc !


Instructions

  • Soak the channa dal and chillies in some water for 2-3 hours.

  • In a blender, add channa dal, chillies, turmeric powder, ~1.5 tsp of salt and blend to a coarse mix.

  • In a pan, heat oil and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves, urid dal and sauté till urid dal is golden brown.

  • Stir in the blended mixture and mix well. Cook the mixture on medium low for 4-5 minutes covered.

  • Add beans and cook for 4-5 minutes or till beans are soft.

  • Serve with hot rice or roti ! Enjoy !
