From my grandmother/father’s kitchen with little of our twist, this ayurvedic home remedy is a hidden gem worth sharing. It’s known to improve digestion, reduce stomach ulcers, control blood sugar, aid weight loss and has plethora of benefits for lactating mothers. I had it post delivery with my first child but we started having it atleast once a week, if not daily during pandemic season to avoid common ailments for all of us and especially for my pregnancy and postpartum!

Vegetarian | GF

Serving Size : ~ 1 mason jar

Prep ⏰: 3 mins | Cook ⏰ : 10 mins

Ingredients

1/2 cup dried turkey berries/ sundakkai

1/2 cup dried black night shade / manathakkali

2 tbsp dried neem flower

1 tsp peppercorns

1/2 tsp jeera (optional)

1 tbsp curry leaves (optional)

1 tsp ghee

salt to taste

Instructions

  • In a pan, heat 1 tsp ghee and add sundakkai, manathakkali, pepper, been flowers (jeera and curry leaves) and roast them till they are aromatic/ slight toasted.

  • Allow all ingredients to cool down completely.

  • In a mixer grinder, add salt to mixture and grind them to fine powder.

  • Allow the mixture to cool completely before storing in an air tight container. It stores well for 3-4 months.

How to consume this powder

  • Eat 1/2 tsp of powder in 1tbsp of rice with some ghee everyday.

  • It’s also easy to sneak into curries and chutneys for kids so they get the benefit without tasting it (my daughter has always eaten bitter things so she eats with rice)
